What is parallel delivery?
Parallel delivery is a software delivery methodology where discovery, build, governance, and launch readiness run on a single shared clock instead of as sequential handoffs. The phases advance together, guided by shared context and explicit milestone gates, so a production-ready release ships in weeks instead of quarters.
The sequential model it replaces
In a traditional delivery model, design finishes before engineering starts, code completes before compliance reviews begin, and each phase waits on the last. Every handoff is a wait state, and every wait state compounds: a six-month roadmap is usually two months of work separated by four months of queues.
The model made sense when each phase needed a different team and context could not be shared cheaply. AI-augmented senior contributors changed that constraint - one small team can now hold the full context of a build, which makes the queues optional.
How it differs from agile and sprints
Agile reduced the size of each sequential cycle. Parallel delivery removes the sequencing. In an agile sprint, the work is still design → build → test → review, just compressed into two weeks. In parallel delivery, those phases run concurrently across the same milestone, with senior contributors maintaining shared context.
